VOCABULARY: Review the following vocabulary before you begin this unit. Physical Fitness: The ability to complete daily tasks without undue fatigue, respond in an emergency, and have healthy leisure fun each day Controllable Health Risks: Lifestyle activities which a person can make changes in to improve overall health Non-controllable Health Risks: Concepts which will affect a person’s quality of health but you cannot change Health Related Fitness: Components of fitness which focus on how well the different body systems work and one’s overall health Skill Related Fitness: Components of fitness which focus on how athletic a person is and one’s ability to perform sports’ skills Flexibility: Range of motion in a joint Cardiovascular Fitness: Ability of respiratory and circulatory systems to supply “fuel” to muscles during exercise Muscular Strength: Muscle’s ability to apply force against object one time Muscular Endurance: Muscle’s ability to apply force for an extended period of time Body Composition: Ratio of lean body tissue to fat Agility: Ability to change body position quickly and with control Balance: Ability to maintain upright stable position while moving or still Coordination: Ability to do eye, hand, foot movements at same time Power: Ability to do strength and speed at same time Reaction Time: Amount of time to start movement once the need is realized Speed: Ability to cover distance in a short period of time |
